Approximately 300 people gathered in Tricolorului Square in Huși to express their support for Dr.Nelu Tătaru, who has been accused of bribery by the National Anti-Corruption Directorate (DNA).The protest is taking place during the vote in the Chamber of Deputies regarding the lifting of the deputy’s immunity to allow DNA to conduct a home search..
Participants of all ages joined the protest, including employees from the ’Dimitrie Castroian’ Hospital, where Nelu Tătaru works as a surgeon. Many of those present were patients of the doctor.
’He is one of the best doctors this city has ever had.He was kind to everyone.Very intelligent, he performed surgeries comparable to those done in hospitals in Iași, which other doctors here do not perform.I worked for 25 years in the Ambulance service, recently retired, and I know what I’m saying.Doctor Tătaru has been targeted by this accusation. He did not need eggs, chickens, or money, as the DNA claims. If someone wanted to thank him for the way he was treated, does that mean it’s bribery? That’s corruption.I believe this is a political execution. He probably upset someone,’ stated one of the protest participants.
’His major mistake was entering politics. It is because of politics that he has ended up in this situation. He is an extraordinary doctor. He does not deserve this.A good person never fits in anywhere,’ declared another woman present at the protest.
Tătaru accused of receiving bribes in money and food from patients
Nelu Tătaru was placed under criminal investigation last Thursday by DNA prosecutors in a case where he is accused of receiving bribes over three months, varying between 100 and 500 lei, as well as food from 45 individuals.According to the DNA, Tătaru received bribes for both surgeries and the issuance of prescriptions.
The former Minister of Health stated on Thursday, upon leaving the DNA office in Iași, that he is innocent and has never conditioned medical acts: ’I consider myself innocent.I have never conditioned medical procedures.’.
Following the DNA allegations, the president of PNL, Nicolae Ciucă, announced that Nelu Tătaru was dismissed from his position as head of PNL Vaslui and will be removed from the party’s list for the parliamentary elections.
